Verifying Holds in Aleph
Once you have clicked 'OK', you will return to the original screen and from there you can then verify that the Hold was created.
Some other things to note:
- The status of the item has changed to ‘Waiting In Queue’. It will initially be ‘In Process’, but will change to Waiting In Queue within a few minutes by refreshing the screen.
- The ‘Recall Type’ is 03 for ‘No Recall’.
- The ‘Request Date’ denotes the date the ‘Hold’ was created.
- The ‘Pickup Location’ is SMU, as it is a Saint Mary’s item (owning library).
- The ‘Hold Request Status’ is ‘W’ for ‘Waiting in Queue’.
- If you click on the ‘Item Match Filter’ tab, you will see that the ‘Sublibrary’ is SMU. The ‘Pickup Location’ and Sublibrary fields will always have the same location for a Hold. If they differ, it is a Novanet Express request.
- Right clicking on the highlighted Hold also gives a quick synopsis of the item.
If there is more than one request for an item, they will be listed in chronological order. This order can be altered, if required, by a staff member by changing the ‘Priority’ of the request.
- For example, a request may be deleted in error and need to be recreated and placed back as first in queue.
While in the ‘Item tab’ to view the number of Holds a patron has (rather than the number of Holds on that particular item), highlight the patron’s ‘Hold’ request and click on the ‘Go to Patron’ button on the upper right hand side of the screen:
Alternatively, you can click on the ‘Patron’ tab, enter the patron’s barcode or ID number and then click on the ‘Hold Requests’ node:
