Paper Jams
By far the most common problem with the copiers is paper jams. Jams can happen in two main areas: feeder, and main copier.
When a paper jam occurs, the machine will advise of the problem and a schematic of the copier will appear on the control panel. This schematic will have an arrow pointing to the problem area. The machine will be inoperable until the jam is cleared.
Feeder
This image shows how to open the feeder for inspection.
Pull the release lever located on top of the feeder.
Once opened, the feeder can be inspected for paper jams

Do not attempt to pull sheets of jammed paper from the copier. This will only magnify your problems as the paper will invariably tear and leave small pieces in inaccessible spots.
Use the blue roller shown in this image to advance the paper and allow its removal intact.

Main Copier
The second area where jams frequently occur are the rollers which move the paper from the paper trays to the copier proper. These trays are ‘protected’ (from prying hands) by a metal cover. Obtain the key from the Circulation Desk to unlock this cover
Once unlocked and the metal cover is moved, several plastic caps/covers are visible
By opening each cover (beginning with #1) you will be able to access any jammed paper.
- Paper can be jammed behind anyof these cover.
- Carefully and gentlyremove jammed sheets.
- Once the jammed paper has been removed, close all covers and relock the metal cover.
- The ‘copier will take a second or two to recover, but will be operable after this recovery phase.
