Other Opening Duties
- Only after the metal entrance gate has been retracted, turn on the security gate and record the traffic and alarm readings (A and P numbers) in the binder. (The metal of the gate affects the security sensors.)
- Check the photocopiers. Retrieve the keys from the cash register and use a photocopy card to run a test copy, and clear any jams. Place paper in the drawers (to a maximum of 3/4 full). Contact the appropriate staff member, if repairs are required.
- Check the fax machine for any incoming faxes. If there are faxes, fill out the blue ‘Faxes Received’ form, and have the form handy to contact the recipient from 9am onwards, but no later than 9pm.
- Check the paper levels in the fax machine, Circulation printers and Reference printers.
- If there are enough books on the shelves, make up book or periodical trucks.
- Check the pick-up shelf for items, and record the number of periodicals and books on task sheet attached to the clipboard. Check the photocopier area and lobby for any pickups, and record these, too.
- Check the 24-Hour Hold Shelf for any items that should be re-shelved.
- Fill the staplers and clear any jams; provide paper clips in the cup.
