Adding a Memo
First, add a memo for the staff at Student Accounts. This memo provides information to enable a student to pay their fines through the University rather than at the Library.
To begin adding the fines and a block on the students account, either type in TSADETL (it will automatically put this in caps) in the ‘Go To’ field at the top of the screen or choose ‘Student Account Detail’ from the ‘My Banner’ folder on the main page.
- A page will appear that will ask about invoices. This page is never relevant to what we need to do.
- Click on the ‘x’ or Ctrl Q to ‘quit’ this screen. You will only have to do this once a session.
- Enter the student’s A number in the ID field. The patron’s name will appear next to the student number.
- Always double-check to make sure you have the correct patron. Sometimes the ‘A’ number may be incorrect in Aleph. If you have an incorrect number, refer to the section in the manual on doing a ‘person search’ in Banner.
- Click ‘Ctrl Page Down’ to access the record. You can also click ‘Next block’ on the toolbar.
- Click on the ‘Memos’ tab. This tab is the only tab where the Library makes changes.
- Enter M172 in the ‘Detail Code’. This code is for library fines, and this phrase will appear in the next field once you enter the code. The cursor will now be in the Amount field.
- Enter the amount of the fine and tab to the ‘Term’ field.
- Click the arrow next to the box to use the drop down menu, and select the term for when the fines accrued. If you know the term, you can type it in.
- The cursor automatically goes the ‘Bill Indicator’ box. Always put a ‘Y’ here.
- Click ‘F10’ to save.
