Getting Started
The Reserve section can be found in the “Administration” section of the Circulation module in Aleph (v.20).
On the list of options, click ‘List of Courses’ node. This will allow you see if the required course has been previously added. You have the option to decide to search by Instructor, Course Name or Course Number. Course Number is usually the safest search option. Instructors inevitably teach more than one course and there is often more than one course with the same name. After having made this decision, select ‘Course Number’.
Once selected, insert the actual course number into the search box (above) and press ‘Enter’. If the course is presently listed in Reserves, it will now be highlighted.
However, should the required course not appear on this list, it will have to be created.
To create a new course, press the ‘New’ button on the search page.

This will open another page.
Complete the required fields with the relevant information and simply press “Add”. You have now added the required course.
Now having found or created the required course, simply click the ‘Course Doc List’ node. This will then allow you to see all material currently linked to this course (below).

In order to add an item belonging to St. Mary’s or another Novanet library, click on the ‘Search’ button on the right hand side of the screen.
This will allow you locate the item to be placed on Reserve in OPAC and link it to this course (below).
While an item can be located using various search tools, an item’s barcode is unique, so using a barcode search is the surest way to locate an item to be added to a course. Having retrieved the required item from the stacks, scan the item’s barcode. After the item’s barcode is scanned, a screen will open showing the bibliographic record of this item (below). Press the ‘Select’ key.
After pressing the ‘Select’ key, another screen opens. This will allow notes to be applied to record – rarely if ever used. Once you are sure you have added the notes or have decided not to add a note, press ‘OK’.
