BARA Items Returned in SMU Bookdrop
For items belonging to any Public Library in Nova Scotia:
- Fill in a Libraries Nova Scotia – Borrow Anywhere/Return Anywhere Slip located at the Checkin station #3. Record the date the item was returned, and record the location (Saint Mary’s University or SMU).
- Place the Return slip inside the book, as you would a bookmark, and place it on the designated BARA Returns shelf at the Circulation desk.
- The designated staff member will retrieve these items and take them to the back office for processing.
- If you notice, at the end of your Circulation desk shift that there are items on the BARA Returns shelf, you can take these items to the Circulation office bookcase shelf marked ‘BARA Processing – To be entered into the BARA webpage – Return Tab’ by the Student desk.
The item will need to be processed through the ‘BARA - Notification of Returned Items’ web page. This process should be completed, by the designated staff member, within two working days of the books return. The following outlines the return procedure:
- Login to the ‘BARA – Notification of Returned Items’ web page at http://bsod.library.ns.ca/bara/
- Select the Return tab. All fields are mandatory, except Notes.
- Use the Calendar function. Do not type the date yourself! Select the actual date the item came back, as stated on the Libraries Nova Scotia – Borrow Anywhere/Return Anywhere Return Slip, not necessarily the current date.
- Be sure to leave the Slip in the book.
- Select the Owning Library from the dropdown menu.
- Scan or enter the Barcode (be sure the barcode you have entered corresponds with the one on the item).
- Material Type: Choose 'Book' for material which can be mailed via the Canada Book rate or sent via the book truck, or choose 'Other' for audiovisual items or microfilm.
- Title - full title with subtitles
- Notes – Optional, such as damaged, 2 disk set, etc.
- Click ‘Submit’ button.
You will be taken to the ‘Confirmation of the Returned Item’ page. This gives you a chance to verify that the information you supplied is correct (book title, barcode, location). If you found an error, you can select the option ‘Change Item Info’.
If the item is being sent to a Non-Metro location, copy and paste this confirmation page into Word. Print and place it in the front of the returned item. This will tell the person preparing the package where to ship the item. Remember, the BARA Return slip must remain in the book, until it is received by the owning library.
If the item is being sent to a Metro location, there is no need to print the confirmation page.
To enter another returned item, select the ‘Return’ tab. You must submit one Return entry for each item being returned to a Non-Novanet library. This serves as a record of the item’s receipt and it also sends an email message to the owning library that the material has been returned.
Once entered into the system, these items are ready to be packaged for shipment.
Remember to logout from the BARA Notification web page, at the end of each session.
