Novanet Express (NE)
All NE items are interfiled alphabetically by the patron's last name on the Hold Shelf or in the file cabinet, if it is a photocopy request. They are distinguished by a green NE slip showing out of the top of the item, or attached to the photocopy request. The name of the requesting patron will be written in red marker and clearly visible.
As the item is coming from another Novanet institution, the requesting patron may not be set up with loaning privileges for that library. Verify the ID is current, and set up loaning privileges for the item's loaning library, as described above in the 'Holds' section.
When an item is scanned in Check-out and the patron does not have Local Patron privileges for the owning library, the system displays a message, "No loan permission - Local patron sublibrary NOV50".

- Photocopies are not checked out, as we do not require them to be returned. Other NE material should be checked out in the same manner as a regular Hold request, as described above.

- Do not click the Override button. Click the 'Cancel' button, go to the Patron tab, Local patron node, select the appropriate sublibrary and patron status and then click the 'Get Defaults' button. If the Override button is clicked to sign out the item, the patron will not be able to renew the item online.
- It is important to note that loan times at other Novanet institutions my differ from those at SMU. For example, Community Colleges do not recognize the longer loan period for students with Novanet Graduate status. Watch the due dates carefully, and be sure the due date you relay to the patron is accurate.
