Items with a Second Hold Pending
There will be times when an item you are about to checkout has a second request waiting in queue. In this case, a window will pop up stating, "This item has been requested by other patrons", and Aleph will automatically shorten the loan period to ten days.
To check out material that has a second request attached to it:
You may have a patron come to the desk with a book retrieved from the stacks that is either currently 'On Search' with a Hold request attached, or the book has been requested through NE and not yet retrieved:

- Scan the barcode, as you would for normal checkout.
- Note the ten day loan due date generated by ALEPH. Print the due date slip. Inform the patron that the item is requested by another patron, hence the shorter loan date.
- Desensitize before handing it over to the patron.
You may have a patron come to the desk with a book retrieved from the stacks that is either currently 'On Search' with a Hold request attached, or the book has been requested through NE and not yet retrieved:
- In these instances, the patron with the book in hand gets to borrow the book first. The loaning patron will have a ten day loan period (as there is another patron waiting for it), and the second Hold will be activated upon its return (refer to "Searches" in the Troubleshooting: Check-Out section in this Chapter).
