Creating Holds in the OPAC
For a patron to create a Hold on an item, she must access the online Novanet Catalogue. The following procedure describes how a patron would place an online Hold.
From the Novanet Catalogue homepage:
- Search for the required title, by using Title, Author, or Subject.
- Select the title, to go to the page displaying all the available locations.
- Select Saint Mary’s University, to see if our copy is In Library or on loan.
- Click on ‘Place a hold or request a loan’, on the lower left hand side of the screen. This will start the process for creating a Hold, only if the item is currently out on loan. If the item has a status of In Library, you will be creating a Novanet Express request (refer to Novanet Express section in Chapter 6).
- In the next screen, enter the barcode or ‘A’ number (for SMU patrons) in the ‘Barcode’ field.
- In the ‘Password’ field, enter the last four digits of the phone number we have on file in Aleph, unless the password was manually changed by the patron.
- Click ‘Go’
The next screen confirms that the Hold has been created. Along the right hand side, you will see an explanation of what to do if you thought you were creating a Novanet Express request. This screen also shows the expected due date and explains that you will be notified when the item becomes available.
Click Go, in the lower left hand side of the screen, to complete the request.
