Problems and Error Reports
If a fax is undeliverable, a report with 'NG' clearly printed on it will print. If this occurs:
- Check that the correct number has been dialled.
- Verify witht the patron that the correct number has been provided.
- If it is a Canadian/US destination, be sure that you have dialled a (1) before the number. Carribean countries have a North America dialling code. Be sure you are not dialling it as an international number.
- If it is an international number, it is very important that the sender knows the country code and city code of the fax's destination.
- Re-send, if necessary.
When a fax number is busy or does not answer, or an error occurred while sending from the memory, your fax waits two minutes and then automatically redials the same number.
- This process will repeat three times and then a report will print saying whether the transmission has failed or succeeded.
The fax machine on the other end could be experiencing problems:
- Out of paper or toner
- The cable may be unplugged
- Machine is turned off
Some international countries can be difficult to reach due to time differences (China has a 12 hour time difference to Canada). Although most companies leave their faxes turned on 24 hours per day, some do not. It may be necessary to have the patron try again later. However, we can program the fax machine to transmit the document later than during our regular operating hours. To do this:
- Place the document on the feeder, face up.
- Select 'Down Arrow' key & select 31 FGax/Transmission
- Enter the number you with to program and the time you want it to be sent using the 24 hr clock, & press OK.
- Select the feed type, Feeder or Memory, and confirm with OK.
- Enter the number of pages before transmission and confirm with OK.
- Your document is stored and will be sent at the new time.
This will instruct the fax machine to dial the number at the selected time and possibly have better results in transmitting the fax.
