Important Points to Tell the Patron
Make sure you always reiterate the following four points found in the Borrowing Agreement:
- Never leave the laptop unattended. If you lose the laptop, there is a $1,500 replacement fee.
- The laptop cannot be taken out of the library, which includes into the Atrium, unless there is an emergency evacuation.
- Bring the laptop back five minutes before the due time, so a staff member can check it over to make sure it is in good working order. The patron will have to wait while this is done.
- Any work completed by the patron left on the computer is deleted upon reboot. The patron must save any work on either a USB drive, or email a copy of the work. Network drives are not available on the laptops.
If you come across one of our laptops left unattended while doing rounds in the library, keep an eye out for the patron to return. Gently remind the patron that our laptops must always be kept in hand. Inform the patron, if it happens again, they may lose laptop-borrowing privileges.
- Make a note of the laptop number, which is found on the top of the laptop by the barcode.
- Put a Global Note on the patron’s record alerting staff that the patron has left a laptop unattended. Two notes will result in loss of laptop borrowing privileges.
