Microfilm/Microfiche - Getting Started
The library's two "Powerscan 2000" microfilm/fiche readers allow patrons to view both microfilm and microfiche. When linked to a computer, the Powerscan 2000 allows the viewed images to be stored or printed.
To begin, ensure that the Powerscan 2000 is turned on. The on/off switch is located at the back of the unit.
A shortcut can be found on the computer desktop to open the Powerscan 2000 software. Double-click on this icon.
The next screen will open and at this point you will be required to select the type of film to be viewed. The Patrick Power Library only has positive microfiche and 35mm microfilm in its microform collection. Let us assume that we need to view material on film. Double-click on the 35mm film image.
The following page will open:

At this point, it would be advantageous to open the tray.
This will prompt the unit to display an illustration of the path the film must take as it enters the reader.
After feeding the film through the unit in the prescribed manner, close the tray. Using the speed controls, advance the film until an image appears on the monitor.
To advance to the required page number/article, simply use the appropriate speed control.

The Library also has a collection of microfiche. To read material on this medium, place the fiche in the tray, then return the tray to its original position.
Once returned to its original position, the image will appear on the monitor.
Note: To move from page to page on fiche, the tray must be gently moved from left to right - there is no mechanical means (as with film) to advance the fiche.
