Correcting Errors
Errors in a transaction can be corrected at three points in the transaction:
- If the wrong amount is keyed in (the very first step in the transaction), and no Category has yet been selected, press the ‘Clear’ key and re-enter the correct amount.
- If the amount was entered and a Category key was pressed, the Clear key will not work. In this case, press 'Void' and then 'Subtotal' void
- For example, 500 entered
- Fax category chosen incorrectly
- Press the Subtotal key
- Press the ‘Void’ key
- Press Subtotal key again
If the transaction has already been completed and receipt printed before the error was noticed, such a transaction can only be voided (Manager Void) by a supervisor.
- Student assistants should give the receipt to a supervisor who will then void the transaction and re-enter it correctly.
To void a transaction, the supervisor will:
- Remove the OP key and insert the MA (Manager) key, and turn the Mode switch to the VOID position.
- Re-enter the entire transaction exactly as shown on the original receipt. A receipt will be printed indicating that the transaction has been Voided.
- Remove the MA key, insert the OP key, and set it to the REG position. Then re-enter the transaction correctly.
If the key is left in the VOID position, all subsequent sales entries will register as negative. To prevent this from happening, the MA key is kept on a separate ring (metal dolphin tag), and should only be used for Manager voids, for setting the time/date, and for closing the register and printing reports.
