Conflicting due dates
On occasion, a staff member will receive a Recall request for an item that has an original due date that comes before the system created Effective Due Date:
- Advise the requesting patron of his options. Placing a Recall would give the loaning patron a few more days with the book, but is usually more successful in getting the book back by the new Effective Due Date.
- Placing a Hold on the item will prevent the loaning patron from renewing, but does not ensure that it is returned by the original due date.
- Pass the slip on to the Recalls staff member. If the original due date is within three days of what the Effective Due Date would be, the Recall will be created, unless otherwise advised by the patron.
- Sometimes a second Hold is sufficient. If the original due date is within the next three days, it may be decided to just place a second Hold and hope the item is returned on time, rather than extending the due date ten more days by placing the Recall.
