Off-Line Circulation
When Aleph is unavailable for a short period, we fill out a 'System Down' form to keep a record of what items are signed out. The forms are held until the system becomes available, and we then check the items out online. During these times no material is checked in - books are held on carts until Aleph becomes available.
If the system will be down for a longer period of time we use the Off-Line Circulation module in Aleph. This is a very basic means of storing barcode transactions until the information can be downloaded into Aleph.
When Aleph is unavailable, we do not have access to any patron or item records so we cannot tell a patron what books they have signed out or how much money they owe in fines. Some students may be unable to register for classes due to Library blocks on their Banner accounts. If this happens, refer the patron to a supervisor who can access the patron's Banner account. Other than in special cases, please ask the patron to come back when Aleph is available once again.
