Other types of fine situations
7-Day loans
These items include Journals, DVDs, and Videos. The grace period for these items is seven days. On the eighth day, a $2 fine will be applied to the patron’s account. Fines will continue to accrue until the item is returned or it reaches the $20 maximum.
Reserve Readings
For Reserve Readings we use four different types of loan periods: 2Hr, 4Hr, 24Hr and 3-day loans. There are also 1Hr and 48Hr loan periods available, but we do not use these.
Grace periods for these items are found in the table:
Therefore, if a 2 hour loan book is due back at 12:00; overdue fines will start accruing at 12:16 at a rate of $.25 per hour (or any part thereof). If the book is not returned until 1:01, the patron will be charged for two overdue hours.
If the loan were 24Hrs or a 3-day loan, the overdue fines would accrue at a rate of $1 per day.
If the loan were 24Hrs or a 3-day loan, the overdue fines would accrue at a rate of $1 per day.
Laptop computers
The loan period for laptops is three hours. Overdue fines are $2 per hour (or part thereof) to a maximum of $22. These fines apply to both the laptop record and to the power cord record. There is a 15-minute grace period for laptop lending.
Recalls
Recalls are another time-sensitive item. When an item has been ‘Recalled’, the patron’s loan period is reduced to ten days. If the item is not returned by the end of the adjusted due date, there is a two day grace period before Aleph starts applying the fines to the patron’s account ($1 fine x 2 days = $2 minimum fine applied by Aleph).Recall fines will continue to accrue until they reach the maximum of $20.
In addition to the $1per day Recall fines, regular overdue fines will also start accruing on the Recalled item once the 7-day grace period has passed. These fines are applied to the patron’s account starting on the eighth overdue day (25¢ per day x 8 days = $2 minimum fine applied by Aleph).
Therefore, from the eighth day onward, the overdue fines will accrue at the combined rate of $1.25 per day to a maximum of $40.
